Dr. Ehsan Vaghefi is the CEO of Toku Eyes and an associate professor of Medical Imaging and Artificial Intelligence in Optometry and Ophthalmology at the University of Auckland. As an academic, Dr. Vaghefi has published more than 45 peer-reviewed journal articles and 5 patents, and he has been awarded more than $10M in research grants. In 2018, he and his co-founder, Dr. David Squirrell, started Toku Eyes and so far have raised more than $11m in VC funding. Toku Eyes is now backed by the largest ophthalmic device manufacturer (TOPCON) and the largest US optometric retailer (NVI). Today, Toku Eyes’ AI platform is being used in many clinics across the US, UAE, Australia and New Zealand.
Dr. Vaghefi has over 15 years of experience in bioengineering and biomedical engineering, with a PhD from the University of Auckland and a MSc from the University of New South Wales.
